Ghostly Goings-on at Peterborough Museum…

Peterborough Museum not only has a fascinating history and many wonderful objects, but also has a reputation as one of the city’s most haunted buildings. Now the Museum is offering visitors the chance to soak up the spooky atmosphere for themselves…

On Saturday 11th September the Museum is staging an event entitled ‘Mostly Haunted’, where there will be a talk by expert ghost hunters from the Cambridge Paranormal Society on what goes on at a paranormal vigil. Then those present will go in small groups on an evening tour around the Museum, until beyond midnight and the witching hour!

Stuart Orme, Museum Marketing and Events Officer for Peterborough City Council, and ghost walk creator and guide says, ‘We’ve obviously found a great deal of interest in this subject from all the people who thus far have been on the ghost walk. Many of the people who have been on the walk have expressed interest on finding out more about what goes on in a real ghost-hunt, so we’re delighted to be able to satisfy that interest!’

He adds: ‘Although no guarantees are given of ghostly happenings, it does promise to be a fascinating evening, and the Museum’s apparitions may always decide to put in an appearance…’

Tickets for this event are strictly limited in numbers, for adults only and cost £25, which includes light refreshments and a buffet meal. The event starts at 7.30pm on Saturday 22nd May and will go on to about 1am.

Any place with an inhabited past is bound to have ghosts and the Isle of Ely is no exception. This book tells a selection of stories about a few of the city's former residents whose return to their previous haunts has not gone unnoticed by many present day residents. Information was collected from people who live in Ely and from the accounts of those who have passed through at some time in their lives. The authors are both Blue Badge Tourist Guides with a wealth of knowledge about Ely. This is not only a book about ghosts but also an alternative history of Ely.
